At Herringport Bespoke Kitchens and Furniture we manufacture the very best handmade kitchens Suffolk and Norfolk has to offer.
Our workshops are situated on the riverside at Gorleston on what’s known as Darby’s Hard – where clinker-built herring boats were once dragged up the slipways and repaired.
They say the herring boats were so numerous back in the day that you could walk from one side of the river to the other across their decks. That’s hard to believe now, but photographs from the period seem to back up the claim.
Further back in history the townspeople would have crowded outside what are now our workshops to see Lord Nelson return victorious from The Battle of the Nile.
How we started
We started off in business by building those clinker boats, but, as fibreglass took over, we switched to making furniture instead using traditional woodworking techniques and hand tools but incorporating modern wood preparation methods.
Today the building is used by our craftsmen to build bespoke kitchens, furniture, beds, along with fitted and freestanding wardrobes.
